Park Woul-Gyu

Abstract
A case?control study was conducted to investi gate the riak fa~Lors of the hyperlipidemia. It is at tempted to explore the relationship between hyperlipidemia and the lifestyle of drinking, smoking and exercise,
This study sample was selected from the workers who completed general screening test of physical examination and self evaluation check list for hf estyle during the period of from Jan, 1993 to Dec. 1993 at a screening center located in Seoul.
Among 12.539 workers, 227 were identified as the hyperlipidemia and 242 were selected as a control group using systematic sampling matched by sex. type and place of work.
The results obtained were as follows
1. The mean age for the case group was 46.97(SD~8.56) and for the control group was 43.39(SD~8. 10). The mean serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and broca index for the case groups were 225.7¡¾4O.Oa~g / riP, 422.9¡¾ l53.2¡¯m /~9 ~nd 152.1¡¾ 1&lkg/cm.The mean serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and broca index for the control groups were 175. 0¡¾26. 1nig/d~, 101.0¡¾37.6mg/d2 and 134.7¡¾ 14.3kg/cm.
2. In the comparison between the cases arid controls of daily smoking(p~=.004) and of drinking(p=.005) were st~tietirni1y signific~ant hut the exerrising factor(p~.075) was marginally significant.
3. The hyperlipidernia group has a significant higher rate of family history of diabetes mehitus and hypertension.
4. After controlling age, three variables are shown statistically significant Individuals who are overweight have 6.34 times more likely to have hyperhipidemia Individuals who smoke daily have 3.32 times more likely to have hyperlipidemia than
ones who do not smoke; And individuals who exercise regularly have only 43% of chance having hyperhipidemia than ones who do not exercise regularly.
Based on the results of this study, health promotion program should be planned to intervene or modify the risk factors.
